Injectable Composite Success: A Case Study by Alla Brown

Case Background
Marcus, a 71-year-old patient, has been under my care for many years. Over time, he experienced significant wear and chipping of his teeth. We had numerous discussions about the potential longevity of his teeth without intervention. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, Marcus had hesitated to proceed with treatment. However, when his existing anterior bonding completely chipped away, and I informed him that it could not be repaired, he decided to move forward with reconstruction.
Assessment & Treatment
Upon examination, it became clear that Marcus needed a comprehensive approach to restore function and aesthetics. I presented him with an optimal treatment plan that included porcelain for the anterior teeth, but we ultimately had to adjust the plan to fit his financial situation. After discussing the pros and cons of various options, Marcus chose injectable composite for his anterior teeth. This was my first injectable composite case, and it allowed for a more cost-effective solution while still achieving satisfying results.
Preparation and Mock-Up

The processbegan with an evaluation of Marcus’s current dental condition and the planning of the treatment steps. I decided to take an additive approach to his lower anterior teeth, which would help minimize the color differences and ensure a more natural appearance. A mock-up was created to give Marcus a visual representation of the anticipated outcome, allowing him to feel comfortable and confident with the proposed changes.

Final Restoration

Once the mock-up was approved, I moved forward with the application of the injectable composite. This innovative technique provided the ability to reshape and restore Marcus’s lower anterior teeth while ensuring a close match to his natural tooth color. The additive approach helped in achieving a harmonious blend with his existing dentition.

Outcome

The results were incredibly rewarding. Not only did Marcus leave the office with a revitalized smile, but he also expressed his happiness with the treatment. The injectable composite effectively addressed the immediate concerns of tooth wear and chipping, providing a beautiful and functional restoration. This case demonstrated the viability of injectable composites in achieving aesthetic outcomes while being mindful of financial limitations, allowing Marcus to regain both function and confidence in his smile.
